The Ramrod was built in 1959 by Port Hamble in Hamble-le-Rice (United Kingdom) for Selwyn Slater and R. McLoughlin. The yacht was drawn by Arthur C. Robb (1908-1969), who had already drawn the kutter Uomie for Selwyn in 1954. The Uomie was distinguished by good handling and competed in the three biggest ocean sailing races of the period: Fastnet, Bermuda and Sydney-Hobart. The racing yacht Ramrod, as a further development of the Uomie, also possessed excellent sailing qualities. In 1959, the yacht won the second edition of the Admirals Cup, along with the two other British boats Myth of Malham and Griffin II ( (website in contact data):// (website in contact data)).

The Ramrod is double hulled of Makoré (a durable tropical hardwood of the Sapotaceae family) riveted to oak trusses. The hull shape is a traditional long keel with lead keel. The rudder is attached to the keel. The ship is in good condition. Renewed aluminum mast and rigging, renewed engine. Cutter rigged, extensive sail wardrobe, sailomat windvane steering system.

There is a separate steering cockpit aft and a separate cockpit for crew/passengers further forward. Below deck are first two dog berths and two settees, then the chart table to starboard and the galley to port. Further forward two longitudinal benches with a table in the middle, then the toilet and forward a double berth in a V.
